Early in May, 1961, Boy Scout Troop 126 of First Methodist Church, Clarkston distributed hand bills in the Drayton Plains and northern Waterford Township areas inviting people without a church home to share in a NEW VENTURE IN FAITH – the organization of a new Methodist Church.  The first worship service of this NEW VENTURE was held at the Community Activities Building on Williams Lake Road, May 21. The Reverend Jesse DeWitt, from the Detroit Conference Board of Missions, preached.  The Senior Choir of First Methodist Church, Clarkston presented the anthem  and a Coffee Hour followed the service.  It was Pentecost Sunday – the date which recognizes the birth of the Christian church, as recorded in the Book of Acts – and, most fittingly, the sermon subject was “The Birth of the Church.”

Worship services of this new chaurch continued to be held at the CAI Building throughout the summer.  The pastor assigned by the Detroit Conference, the Reverend Ron Thompson, arrived  by the end of June and he and his family settled in the red brick parsonage on the church property hill beside Schoolcraft School. Trinity Methodist Church was officially chartered September 17, 1961 at the last worship service held at the CAI Building.  The following Sunday, September 24, the congregation met for worship at Schoolcraft School.  Worship continued at Schoolcraft School for more than 3 years, as the congregation grew in number and made plans to build on the property adjacent to the school.

1964 was an exciting time in the life of this NEW VENTURE!  Ground was broken in April for the church building; the congregation and the pastor watched as the building took shape, and on November 1, 1964 Trinity held its first worship service in its own building!  During the next fifty years or so, various changes have been made to the building and church grounds; a dozen pastors have led the congregation; children have grown to adults; marriages, baptisms, and deaths have occurred.  Trinity has maintained its reputation of the “friendly little church on the hill”, its emphasis on mission work, and its commitment to furthering God’s love in a loving and caring way.  We invite you to join us as we continue in our VENTURE IN FAITH.

Our mission is to further God's love in a loving and caring way through worship, fellowship, study and service.
